Paul closes his teaching on love by contrasting what is temporary with what will last forever. Spiritual gifts and our present understanding are incomplete, but God’s love never fades or fails, and one day the partial way we know Him will give way to seeing Him face to face. Until then, we do not have to understand everything God is doing; we can continue trusting Him with the assurance that one day what is unclear will be made clear. Faith, hope, and love remain, but love is greatest because it reflects the very character of God and is what He calls us to receive from Him and give to others.
