David desires to honor God by building Him a temple, but God has a different plan, reminding David that even a good desire for the Lord is not necessarily an assignment from the Lord. Rather than simply rejecting David’s plan, God reminds him of His faithfulness and promises to build David a house, establishing a kingdom that would ultimately lead to Jesus, the eternal King. The message encourages us to trust God when doors close, recognizing that His “no” may be His direction toward something we cannot yet see. Like David, we can surrender our plans, faithfully serve where God has placed us, and even help prepare the way for someone else to accomplish the work.
