Genesis 2:1–15 | Pastor Greg
The Design of Rest and Relationship
In Genesis 2, Pastor Greg explores God’s intentional design for both creation and humanity. While Genesis 1 gives the chronology of creation, chapter 2 shifts focus to humanity as the crown of God’s work. God establishes the pattern of work and rest, not because He needs rest, but to model a rhythm for our flourishing. Pastor Greg also unpacks the distinction between mankind and animals, highlighting that while both have souls (nefesh), only humans were uniquely given the "breath of life" — a spiritual connection to God. As God forms Adam and places him in the garden, we see God’s calling for humanity: stewardship of both the animal kingdom and the environment. The passage closes with God’s creation of Eve as a "helper comparable" to Adam—equal but distinct, designed for unity through complementary differences.
