As Peter visits the growing communities of believers, God leads him to Aeneas, a man who had been paralyzed for eight years, and Jesus miraculously heals him. The healing reminds us that spiritual gifts are not powers we control, but manifestations of the Holy Spirit given according to God’s will and purposes. We may not understand why God heals in one situation and not another, but even temporary healing points forward to the day when He will permanently restore all brokenness. Rather than trying to make something happen ourselves, our calling is to pursue love, remain open to what God is doing, and faithfully follow where He leads.
