Living In a Hostile World
Peter shepherds a persecuted church toward a distinct way of life in a hostile world: cultivate unity and compassion; refuse retaliation and choose blessing; bridle the tongue, pursue peace, and trust God’s justice; set Christ apart in your heart and stand courageous; be ready to give a gentle, respectful reason for your hope; and keep a clear conscience so your conduct shames slander. Suffering for doing good becomes a witness when Christ is Lord in our hearts.
