Jesus calls His followers to be salt and light, allowing what He has done within them to affect the world around them. Like salt, believers are placed in ordinary places like families, workplaces, schools, and communities to live differently and faithfully reflect Christ without trying to overpower others. Like the moon reflects the sun, we do not produce the light ourselves; Jesus is the source, and as we follow Him, He changes the way we love, forgive, speak, and live. Our lives should ultimately point beyond ourselves so that others see what God has done and glorify Him.
