Matthew 5:20–32 — A Matter of the Heart
Jesus takes the commands against murder and adultery beyond outward behavior and shows that God is concerned with what is happening in our hearts. Anger, bitterness, lust, and broken relationships should not simply be ignored, but dealt with honestly and seriously before they grow and cause greater damage. Even as Jesus addresses difficult subjects like sin and divorce, the message continually points back to grace: our righteousness does not come from perfectly keeping the rules, but through faith in Jesus. He does not simply expose what is wrong in our hearts; He offers forgiveness, healing, and a new life as we bring our sin to Him and walk with Him.
